In 2025, Azerbaijan recorded a significant increase in the number of tourists arriving from China. During the first ten months of the year, more than 57,000 Chinese citizens visited the country, marking one of the highest figures in recent years and clearly surpassing the results of the same period last year.
Experts in the tourism sector attribute this positive trend primarily to the strengthening of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and China. One of the key drivers behind the growth has been the introduction of a mutual visa-free regime, which has made travel easier and more accessible for Chinese visitors. The removal of visa requirements has simplified trip planning and increased interest in Azerbaijan as an emerging travel destination.
Improved transportation connectivity has also played an important role. The launch of direct flights between Baku and several major Chinese cities has made travel more convenient and reduced overall travel time. This development has attracted both individual travelers and organized tour groups, including leisure tourists as well as business visitors.
At the same time, cooperation between tourism companies in both countries has intensified. Azerbaijani tour operators are expanding tailored travel offers for the Chinese market, focusing on cultural tourism, natural landscapes, and gastronomic experiences. Destinations such as Baku, Gabala, Sheki, Shamakhi, and the country’s mountainous regions are drawing particular interest, allowing visitors to explore Azerbaijan’s rich history, architecture, and traditions.
The growing influx of Chinese tourists is also contributing to closer business and humanitarian ties. The organization of professional tourism forums and industry meetings has helped strengthen partnerships and create long-term strategies for promoting Azerbaijan in the Chinese market.
According to experts, current figures reflect a stable and promising trend. With continued expansion of air connectivity, simplified entry procedures, and active promotion of the country’s tourism potential, Azerbaijan is well positioned to further increase the number of visitors from China in the coming years.
